PAST ABUNDANCE

Sport catch was monitored between 1965 and 1993 in the St. Mary's River. Annual number of salmon caught ranged between 311 (1975) and 2,358 (1986) and averaged 1,142 salmon per year.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans have conducted mark-recapture studies of adult salmon between 1995 and 2004 to estimate total number of salmon in the river. The estimated abundance ranged from a low of 430 fish (2002) to a high of 2,475 (1995) and averaged 1,215 salmon each year.
